Why GFTI

Why OCEAN, not another four-letter type?

Peer-reviewed

Built on the Big Five — the dominant model in personality research, not pop psychology.

Founder appetite, measured

OCEAN captures how you think, work, and relate — not how much uncertainty you will underwrite before there is proof. GFTI adds Venture Drive as a sixth axis: founder appetite for betting on the unproven. Two co-founders can match on all five traits and still deadlock on whether to pivot, raise, or kill the bet. That gap is worth naming before you split equity.

Scores and a type

Continuous traits plus a memorable inner ghost — nuance and a label that sticks.

The model

Six dimensions. O-C-E-A-N-V.

Like MBTI, each pair comes with a plain-language “how.” OCEAN covers five founder traits; Venture Drive is the sixth.

O

Openness

OpenGrounded

How you approach new ideas and bets.

Open founders chase novelty; grounded founders refine what already works.

C

Conscientiousness

ConscientiousFreeform

How you organize work and follow through.

Conscientious founders run on systems; freeform founders run on momentum.

E

Extraversion

ExtravertedIntroverted

How you get and use social energy.

Extraverted founders think out loud in rooms; introverted founders think alone first.

A

Agreeableness

AgreeableDefiant

How you handle conflict and honesty.

Agreeable founders optimize for harmony; defiant founders optimize for truth.

N

Emotional Reactivity

ReactiveSteady

How you respond when pressure rises.

Reactive founders amplify under stress; steady founders keep signal clear. (N in OCEAN)

V

Venture DriveFounder-only axis

VenturousPrudent

How you bet when the payoff is still unknown.

Venturous founders ship into ambiguity; prudent founders wait for proof.

Venture DriveVenture Drive is what makes this a founder test. Two people can match on all five OCEAN traits and still disagree on whether to bet the company on an unproven idea.

Co-founders

Founders rarely match. The best teams complement each other.

Your inner ghost is your orientation — how you bet and build. A co-founder with a different ghost is often the point, if you know where you differ before the equity talk.

Imp + Lich

Speed meets patience — one ships into fog, one builds the system that survives it.

Golem + Banshee

Reliable execution meets bold signal — one keeps the engine running, one forces the hard conversation.

Cryptid + Werewolf

Stealth exploration meets pressure execution — one finds the angle, one closes when it's time.

Opposite Venture Drive — Venturous vs Prudent — is the pairing worth discussing early.

FAQ

Common questions

What is GFTI?+
The Ghost Founder Types Indicator is a founder-specific assessment built on the Big Five (OCEAN) plus Venture Drive. You get an inner ghost — one of eight founder archetypes — plus trait scores you can share with a co-founder.
Is this the same as MBTI?+
No. GFTI uses the Big Five (OCEAN) — a peer-reviewed model with no trademark owner — plus a sixth founder axis. It is not Myers-Briggs.
What does my inner ghost mean?+
Your ghost reflects Openness, Extraversion, and Venture Drive — the three traits that shape your founder archetype. The other OCEAN dimensions (Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, and Emotional Reactivity) add nuance to how you work day to day.
Why Venture Drive?+
None of the five OCEAN traits fully capture tolerance for risk and ambiguity under uncertain payoff — the trait entrepreneurship research keeps finding. Venture Drive fills that gap.
Can I share my result?+
Yes. Your ghost type and trait profile are designed to fit in a bio, a tweet, or a co-founder conversation.
How does this help co-founders?+
Same ghost, opposite Venture Drive? That is worth flagging before you agree on equity. GFTI gives you shared language for how you bet, work, and handle pressure.
